The charging is really the only thing that bothers me about this phone…. Its flagship phone whereas the G is midrange. Take a look at the picture below to see what I mean, but also to see how the line has evolved over the last couple of years. It is noticeably crisper than the lower resolution Moto E , but not as sharp as more expensive smartphones with p or higher resolution screens, such as the OnePlus One , Samsung Galaxy S6 or LG G4. The version with 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, as tested, feels slightly snappier than the previous generation Moto G, and is easily on par with all but the very fastest of smartphones. Does it have a place for a micro SD card? Have never had or wanted a phone bigger than an s5 but am not opposed to a larger screen.

It also offers Motorola's Best Shot feature which captures multiple shots before and after you touch the screen, recognizing issues like blurred subjects or blinking eyes and recommends the best picture to keep.

Unlike the new Moto X Style the Moto G does not come with a front flash but offers a flash-like function that briefly cranks up the brightness of the screen as you capture a front camera image to provide some extra light.

At the same time image resolution is reduced in order to average out noise and other artifacts. A microSD slot allows for storage expansion by up to 32GB. Apart from the the more powerful internal components the new Moto G also comes with an IPX7-rated body which sounds like a great feature for those mobile photographers who like to take their device on hikes, bike rides or other outdoor activities.

This means it can survive accidental drops in water of up to three feet for up to 30 minutes. This is an awful lot of smartphone at a lower mid-range price point and the latest Moto G will certainly be popular with budget-conscious mobile photographers.

Submit a News Tip! Mobile Phones All Mobile Phones. BTW, the phones are going back, unopened. Seems like a lot of us in that boat if the Moto forums are any indication. I wonder how many Moto G buyers are aware of this?

Should have been big news, but your post was the first I heard of it. Thanks for the info, BTW. Which is honestly the better phone? If any one could answer this I would greatly appreciate it. Moto makes superior software and probably better hardware too.

The G Stylo is just another mid-range phone for LG, plus its identical pixel count on a larger screen 5. OK so no moto voice. What does this mean? No always listening I assume, but will it answer to okay Google now once the screen is on?

Will it answer from lock screen or does it need to be unlocked? Or does it not answer till u push a button? Phone screen on and unlocked. It should work like an other Android device. It will not respond when the screen is off.

You mentioned you used the GPS on a run. I read that this device also lacks a magnetometer. How well did the navigation perform without it? But just get the Moto X when it drops. So this gets about 5hrs screen on time then?

Why are people saying the Nexus 6 gets bad battery then? Granted, its not as powerful or has as impressive a screen, but your comparison is a bit disingenuous; everyone has consistently been getting this type of battery life out of this phone…..

Thanks for the info. But hrs is the same as I get on my x. Maybe I should be looking at the moto g instead. I have never been able to get beyond 3. Sounds the same as my moto x then. I love how people tell everyone they are getting great battery life on all these forums, and then it turns out that their results are not average.

I should know better by now lol. Wish the turbo got updates, I would just get that device. I bet that does some damage to battery life. The Moto E is already out for Verizon. Pretty much everywhere in prepaid clamshells.

They have mostly unlocked GSM radios. How would you compare this to my current moto x1? I am trying to decide between moto g3 and PE. Have never had or wanted a phone bigger than an s5 but am not opposed to a larger screen. I mostly just text, snapchat and stream Pandora in the car and at the gym.

Zero gaming ever on my phone. So does the moto g3 run smoother and faster for every day use compared to moto x1? How do moto apps compare, specifically display and voice? Does it have the same feature as the PE where you can change music from moto display?

Would really love some advice on which device to get. I also have a Moto X 1st gen. The review said it was missing moto voice, and another downside would be that the PE has a significantly better front facing camera with flash so snapchats will look better.

Might want to wait to see what the Nexus 5 is like since it will be smaller and potentially cheaper than the PE if it has the SD inside. Nexus 5 sounds tempting but I cannot live without moto display. I am crying just thinking about it as a matter of fact.

And yes, it has the music feature. Also runs smoother than the X1. Hmm thanks for the input. I really just want a 5 inch screen with ip67, full moto suite, great daily performance, awesome battery life, and top end camera.

Thanks for the input. One more question that may be a deal breaker. How about the moto connect PC app? Is it compatible with the moto g? There are plenty of youtube reviews out there. I left android after the original droid.

What are the thoughts? I like the thought of pure android but afraid verizon will block updates like galaxy nexus… Afraid of touch wiz cause I hate bloat. If you hate TouchWiz then the N6 is your boy. Only reason I say anything about touch wiz is that I thought they changed a lot of it.

Do you guys prefer nexus v Galaxy. The updates for the N6 come from Google not Verizon this time around. The model is the same where ever you buy it except for carrier branding, not like the Galaxy Nexus which was a special CDMA version for Verizon.

Quicker updates assuming you buy it from Google or unlocked on Swappa , better battery life, front-facing speakers, and it still has all the bells in whistles like wireless charging and quick charge 2. The camera is its only downside.

It will not capture pictures as fast or as detailed as the S6. We already know the phones for the rest of the year. Yeah, there is nothing else to wait for this year. Everything is now well into next year. You get the new update straight from Google and just install it.

Updates will come straight from Moto plus there will be no bloat or extra verizonware which imo hinders performance and battery. Both are solid phones. I have an S6 and love it. The camera is absolutely amazing; best in class.

The screen is also fantastic, probably the best screen on any phone. Those two things together are a tough combination to beat. It is root capable if you stay off the latest update. It's not entirely watertight, though, so if you do happen to drop it down the loo, you'll need to make sure you take off the back and give it a quick wipe, as we found a fair few droplets still lingering beneath the shell during our testing.

There's full 4G support, of course, but it's a shame the microSD card slot only takes cards up to 32GB. Still, that should be plenty for most users, in addition to the 8GB or 16GB of memory provided — although only 4GB or 12GB is actually available to the user after taking Android and other apps into account.

Both have a 5in 1,x resolution display, which I think strikes just the right balance between screen size and pixel clarity, and our colour calibration tests bore very similar results. For instance, our colour calibrator showed it was displaying This is around average compared to other budget phone displays, and while it obviously can't compare to the rich vibrancy of the Galaxy A3's Super AMOLED display, our resulting colour gamut had a very even spread across all the main primary colours.

Reds were weakest, but skin tones looked much more natural than rival phone displays, such as the HTC Desire , when I lined them all up side by side. I also preferred it to the 2nd Gen Moto G's screen, which also looked very warm and pink compared to the new model.

Black levels were reasonably dark at 0. Likewise, the Moto G's viewing angles were excellent, even at more extreme angles. However, you'll struggle to make out darker images and video scenes when using the phone outdoors, as its peak brightness of View the discussion thread.

The photos lack detail at full resolution, however. The simple Motorola camera app can be rapidly activated by a twisting gesture even when the phone is locked. Unlike most other camera applications, by default tapping the screen takes a photo rather than focusing.

Holding down the screen activates burst fire, while sliding out from the left displays options and from the right the gallery. The third generation Moto G is the best yet. It feels great in the hand and the ribbed back makes it easy to grip.

Not many Android phones come with screens as small as 5in, meaning the Moto G is arguably one of the best. The biggest problem is the price. Hopefully, like previous versions, it will drop in cost from third-party retailers soon.
